▼ Noren, a short curtain that represents a sense of our spirit
“Noren” at the entrance was made by Tezomeya, who has a workshop in Kyoto and is making various efforts to bring out the colors of plants to threads for apparel production.
The material we usually call “hemp” does not actually refer to a specific plant, but is a general term for fibers that can be obtained from stems and veins. Currently, there are only two types of Japanese textile products that can be labeled as “hemp”: flax (linen) or ramie (called ramie or choma). The “noren” of Oyado Poulenck Kyoto is made of ramie. The ramie is dyed with tezomeya’s original indigo dye, and while it is durable, it never clings tightly.

Entrance
When you open the sliding door of the entrance and go inside, you will find the inner entrance of the dirt floor, which is a little wider. It is a relatively large space where you can put large luggage and road bikes. We have installed disinfectants to prevent infection. We are also preparing wifi that supports 5G available throughout the building. We will inform you of the network name, password, etc. at the time of booking.
Lobby
A chair was placed in the room on the right side of the entrance to create a space for chatting. The chair is a French antique and can be used well, but it is not very sturdy. We would appreciate it if you could give us your consideration when using it. I also put a small lightweight stool. The windows do not have the grid that is often found in townhouses, but the now-rare, fully-polished glass allows for sufficient daylight while ensuring privacy.
Front room
Although it is a counter, you can use it freely. If you are using slippers, you may not want to wear slippers on the tatami mats, so we laid a red carpet on the path from the lobby to the kitchen on the left side. Please pass as it is with slippers.
Living room
It is the best place to have a good time while looking at the garden. It is said that the wind is made to pass from the front entrance through the dirt floor to the tsubo garden. In winter, we prepared a kotatsu so that you can spend as much comfort as possible. Since there is a flat panel (not a TV), you can freely use the Internet environment in combination with wifi that also supports 5G. All of you can enjoy the photos taken at sightseeing spots by mirroring. We will inform you of the wifi password etc. at the time of booking.
Kitchen
Equipped with microwave oven, IH heater, cutlery, pot, frying pan, refrigerator, etc. for easy cooking. There are also tableware and wine glasses.
Bathroom
Originally, Machiya usually do not have a bath, but we have two shower rooms in consideration of staying for 5 to 8 people. In the main shower room, we installed a shower with integrated cold and hot water. We recommend a public bath near you for those who work together. Please use the information provided before your stay. Standard bath towels, shampoo, conditioner and body shampoo are available for the number of guests. We apologize for the inconvenience, but please bring your own face towel.
Washbasin
We have prepared three wash basins so that even a large number of people can use them comfortably. Take out the paper cup from the paper cup holder on the right side and use it. Facial cleansing foam is also available.
It is equipped with a hand soap from SARAYA, a pioneer of hand washing, to prevent infection. To prevent infection, please bring your own face towel.
Powder room
There is a powder room facing the tsubo garden with a compact but clean washlet toilet. Depending on the number of guests, another washlet toilet is installed next to the shower room in the back of the wash basin through the laundry room. We are working to prevent infection by preparing hand towels and dust boxes.
Backdoor room
We installed a fully automatic washer / dryer in the aisle leading to the room with a shower room and toilet. Detergent is also available. Feel free to use it. However, please note that we are not responsible for any damage to your clothes.

Stairs
Climb a little steep stair from the back of the lobby on the 1st floor. The railing is sturdy, but be careful as it is a really steep staircase. This wallpaper was carefully finished by a veteran craftsman. It was a very time-consuming task to put the groundwork on the wall, then put the beige wallpaper on top of it, and then put the square parts on top of each other.
Connecting room
It is a 6 tatami room that connects the room facing the road (bedroom 1) and the room facing the backyard (bedroom 2).
Bedding
We have equipped a super high quality futon. Eating and then sleeping are important factors in tourism. After visiting all over Kyoto and enjoying a meal, it is very important to return to your inn and get a good night’s sleep. Therefore, we have prepared the most suitable comforters for comfortable sleep, such as camel mattresses that have excellent moisture absorption and body pressure distribution, comforters made from carefully selected feathers, and pillows of different heights. Bedding from IWATA, a long-established store in Kyoto, founded in 1830.
IWATA is a pioneer of down feather bedding in Japan. They develop products based on sleep science and pursue how comfortable you can spend in your futon. It is said that the company in Kyoto has a tradition and always actively introduces new things. The company has been certified by the city of Kyoto as one of the “company that will spin the next 1000 years”, and at the Kyoto head office and Shiga factory. We are actively working toward a sustainable future, such as using electricity from 100% renewable energy. We hope that citizen athletes who visit Kyoto for sporting events will also experience a good night’s sleep.
Bedroom1
There are two beds. Bedding is as described above.
The windows facing the street are equipped with flameproof roll screens that do not destroy the atmosphere of old Japanese houses and are also considered for disaster prevention.
Bedroom2
Please take out the futon from the closet and lay it down. The comforter cover is in place before check-in. Sheets are prepared at check-in. Futons are available in the closet up the stairs on the second floor. Pillows and extra downkets are in the closet in the room with the bed. There is a window between the boards that is a little difficult to open, but a flameproof curtain is also installed there. It is a structure where you can see the courtyard.
Linens
Comforters, pillowcases, flat sheets and bath towels are provided at check-in for the number of guests. (Two sets are set on the bed in bedroom 1.) Linen is in the basket between the binders upstairs. We apologize for the inconvenience, but please understand that linen will be changed from the 4th night. A fully automatic washer / dryer is available. Please feel free to use it if you need to wash it.
