PoulencK Kyoto

The story of PoulencK Kyoto with “Kyo-Machiya” style

PoulencK Kyoto is a renovated ordinary house built in the Kyomachiya style that is over 70 years old and is provided as a single-family accommodation. The Kyomachiya is characterized by its deep and slender structure, which is called the “eel bed”. It can be said to be a symbol of Kyoto, and has developed by making use of the wisdom and ingenuity of various lifestyles. Since we rent a building with a capacity of 6 people, we will welcome only one group each time. Enjoy a relaxing and quiet stay in Kyoto, whether you are alone, in a group, as a couple, or as a family.

The characteristics of PoulencK Kyoto

PoulencK Kyoto is located in a quiet residential area, close to Nijo Castle and just north of the “Tanoji district”, also known as The Kyoto. The total floor area of the first and second floors is about 120 square meters, and structures unique to Machiya can be found everywhere. For more information about our guesthouse, please see our guest room information.

The counter and lobby on the 1st floor, the 10tatami room facing the tsubo-niwa, the kitchen, toilet, shower room, the 6tatami room on the 2nd floor, and about 10tatami room facing Ogawa-dori on the front.

The bedrooms are on the second floor. Flameproof roll screens are also installed on the windows on both sides of the 2nd floor. You will be asked to use a futon, but in the back room on the 2nd floor, we have two beds with futons. For bedding, we have prepared high-quality futons from Kyoto’s long-established store IWATA, which was founded in 1830. I am sure that everyone will be satisfied with a comfortable sleep.

Kitchen, refrigerator, microwave, simple tableware, cutlery, wine glasses, IH heater, two shower rooms and washlet toilet, air conditioner in each room. In winter, we will prepare an oil heater and a kotatsu. One fully automatic washer / dryer is installed for convenience in mountain walking and sports-related events. We considered installing a bath, but since it is not suitable for staying with a large number of people, we decided to show you a public bath near you. We will also provide information on convenient shops and rare shops in the neighborhood at any time.

Amenities

In consideration of hygiene, the coffee machine, electric kettle, and wash basin that can be used one by one are equipped with a paper cup holder and a dryer. Shampoo, conditioner, body shampoo, etc. are always available in the shower room. Bath towels and face towels are available, but amenities such as nightwear, and toothpaste are not available. Please bring your own items.
We believe that disinfection of fingers and hand washing are indispensable in the Covid-19 environment. A disinfectant made by Saraya, which is highly evaluated for infection control in the world, is placed at the entrance, and the company’s hand soap is installed in the washbasin and toilet.

A customer satisfaction is our primary goal.

We will listen to the voices of our customers and strive to become a more comfortable guesthouse.

Noren, a short curtain that represents a sense of our spirit

noren

“Noren” at the entrance was made by Tezomeya, who has a workshop in Kyoto and is making various efforts to bring out the colors of plants to threads for apparel production.

The material we usually call “hemp” does not actually refer to a specific plant, but is a general term for fibers that can be obtained from stems and veins. Currently, there are only two types of Japanese textile products that can be labeled as “hemp”: flax (linen) or ramie (called ramie or choma). The “noren” of PoulencK Kyoto is made of ramie. The ramie is dyed with tezomeya’s original indigo dye, and while it is durable, it never clings tightly.
